Goldendoodle Breed Generations

Updated: Mar 27

Have you been hearing all of these nonsense letters and numbers as you've been researching goldendoodles? Don't worry, you are not alone! It confused me at first too!

Hopefully this visual we created will give you some clarity!

Here's a breakdown of the generations of doodles that we breed. There are even more types than this, but these are our preferred goldendoodle mixes and we don't want to confuse you more than necessary. We do not do multi-generation goldendoodle mixes because we believe in knowing the exact history of each of our dogs and the AKC registered parent lines that they come from. This way, you know your dog's parent lines, as well as their genetic percentages of golden retriever to poodle.

Take a look at the different generations:

Goldendoodle Generations

F1 means that they are first generation goldendoodles. This means that there were no goldendoodles before them in their genetic line. They come from a purebred golden retriever and a purebred poodle, making them 50% poodle and 50% golden retriever.

Here's a picture of one of our past f1 goldendoodle puppies:

F1B means that we took a first generation goldendoodle and "backcrossed" them with a poodle. That means our mama dog is an F1 goldendoodle and daddy is a purebred poodle, making them 75% poodle and 25% golden retriever.

Here is a picture of two of our past F1B goldendoodle puppies:

F1BB means that we "backcrossed" a second time with a poodle. So we took an F1B goldendoodle mama and bred her with a purebred poodle. That makes these puppies 87% poodle and 13% golden retriever. They are super intelligent and curly, curly!

We breed our own goldendoodle mama dogs from our full bred dams and sires, so we know who the parents, grandparents, and sometimes even great grandparents of your puppy are. We are familiar with their personalities, behaviors, genetic testing/history, and their medical history.

We want to do our part to give you the best and healthiest goldendoodle we can!

Take a look at our current puppies and contact us if you fall in love with one or if you want to be on the waitlist for a future litter!
